This one day maintenance workshop is for Singer 221 or 222 (Featherweight) vintage machines only. This is a hands-on and informational workshop.
You will learn (but not limited to):
Featherweight history
Cleaning, oiling and lubricating gears and motor
Tension adjustments
Stitch formation
Cleaning and polishing machine
- Attendees will need a featherweight sewing machine in good working order, including bobbin case, bobbin and foot controller (machines that require actual repair are not suitable for class)
- 2 Screwdrivers: 1 that fits small precision-size screws, and 1 that fits screw heads like the spool pin on top of the machine (Wera brand tools are highly recommended!)
- Old towel to place machine during workshop
- Flashlight
- Small bottle brush or old toothbrush for gear cleaning
- Bobbin tension meter
- 2 spools of same weight, different color thread to test tension and stitching
- Small scissors
- Lubricant made for vintage machines (like “Sew-Retro” grease from The Featherweight Shop)
- Notepad and pen
Optional items:
Apron
Nitrile or rubber gloves if skin sensitive to kerosene
Small bowl to keep loose parts
Featherweight owner’s manual
Provided on the day of workshop:
Kerosene
Sewing machine oil
